On July 15th I added calorie counting into my healthy eating regime (I'm using www.fitday.com to track my calories, weight, exercise...it's free) As of yesterday July 31st I had lost 5.2 lbs.
Ew...that is vile. I'm glad I got rid of it. That is pretty impressive weight loss for my weight-loss resistant body. I do not like counting calories but for ME (as you know we are all individuals), it's a huge huge huge huge part of the weight loss process in addition to eating foods that I know work for my body.
One of the most important changes (which I incorporated with my calorie counting) is to eat no more than 100 carbs per day and no more than 32 carbs every two hours MAXIMUM-I generally stay under 25 just to be safe. (I have insulin resistance, controlled without medication for at least 7 or 8 years. The meds half killed me and I told the doc who didn't seem to care so I got rid of her and her toxic meds). I've done this before. When I follow this path, I feel fantastic, I have less body inflammation, I have more energy, I think more clearly. I had cut gluten out and although it helped with mental fog and intestinal issues, it did not promote weight loss at all. Now I eat a little gluten within my 25 carbs when I feel like it and it works for me. I never ever touch sugar, artificial sweetener, soda, carbonated bevs, etc... I do relax with the gluten restriction and it really is ok for me.
No matter what, I MUST MUST MUST count calories/watch portion size.
I just picked up my Bike-E from the shop (tune up) and I'm incorporating that into my activities... This is a stock photo of the bike I have and it is pretty much the exact bike (sans my personal touches):
I really hate exercise but I spent a year and a half in the gym 6 days per week with a personal trainer (who was fantastic). I did everything she wanted me to do but I did not count calories and that scale did NOT MOVE. I did look better/more fit but I weighed the same thing. Some would say that's terrific and fat takes up more room on the body so I increased muscle and decreased fat-that's true to a degree but I still had that full amount of weight on my joints, etc... that was NOT working for me. So now what I have done is increased my activity levels with very little focus on the word "exercise". I ride my bike, swim, paddle the canoe, play Wii fit games including Dance Dance Revolution, do marathon fast bowling sessions (I love bowling and it's great practice)... I am doing the active things that I enjoy more often and now I dont look at it as another freaking chore I dont want to deal with.
I do not have a set schedule to exercise except for my Ab Lounge crunches (see my former post about my cuz and his weight loss). I hop on the Ab Lounge for bursts of energy expenditure throughout the day for a few min at a time. My body is responding as his did.
I have 57 more lbs to go. I keep picturing the whole mountain of weight I have to lose in 10 lb increments so I do not get overwhelmed. So I only have 5 lbs to go for my first stop on the "get fit" train. Yay me!
